This grand piano is a personal project I did to challenge myself and explore different aspects of 3D art. I used many different images as references to recreate a grand piano with as many details as possible. This is therefore not a specific grand piano but a mix of elements from various pictures.
The first challenge I had to overcome was to model the inside of the piano. I used Illustrator to cut out the curves and import the .svg in Blender.
Creating the textures with shaders was also something new to me. Having little knowledge on the subject, I watched a tutorial explaining the 6 most important nodes in Blender to understand them better, how to mix them together and in which contexts they are best used. I then decided to produce a simple texture for the piano's strings to save resources on polygons.
This project taught me a lot on the use of physics simulator and cloth simulator to create the curtains and the tablecloth. One of the most challenging tasks I completed was to sustain them using the right vertices and place the curtain rings correctly.
The lighting of the scene was difficult at times because I attempted to recreate the sun's light through the windows. I managed to make it bright enough to show through the window but dim enough so as to not be overpowering in the photos. I also loved exploring different camera angles to take beautiful pictures and show the scene through multiple viewpoints.
